It has finally reached that time of the year in the Windy City where the streets are salted, the sun is setting at 4 P.M., snow lays on the tree tops. This year we did not have to wait long to remember what snow really looks like in the city. This past weekend Chicagos first snow happened to be accompanied by the seasons first winter storm as well. With winter weather advisories spreading throughout Dupage, Cook and Will Counties in Illnois, Kenosha County in Wisconsin and Newton and Dubois Counties in Indiana.
Since living in Chicago, it is noteworthy that this is the latest first snow I have witnessed. With years previously having the first snow occur days before halloween or even having the first snow of 2023 fall be on Halloween day, this November 10th first snow lead to me growing curious to see if any other normal weather patterns and trends changed this year. Chicago will soon be feeling and seeing the effects of the phenomenon called the La Niña this winter. Lower sea temperatures and colder winds coming in from the northern hemisphere is prepping Chicagoland and further for a snowy winter!
Snow on the beach
It seems this week has brought more than just winter storms to Chicago and the midwest. According to the National Weather Service, the southeast, in specific Florida, are tie breaking and even record low temperatures. (NBC News) Millions of people in the south were greeted with a freeze warning as well, causing a new stir that many are not used to.
Falling Iguanas?
This weather did not only affect the people throughout the south, but it seems like the reptiles in Florida are reclaiming the term “its raining cats and dogs”! Florida residents were issued a warning of the possibility and the occurrence of Iguanas, which are not dead simply just cold and frozen, are falling out of trees. Check this video out to see what Floridians are dealing with!
As the temperatures drop and the days grow shorter, stay warm, and enjoy it.
